How did your characters grow up? What drives the character's actions? Is it fear, love, anger that the character grew up around that causes them to act the way they do in the story? As a writer the more you know your characters, the easier it is to write the story. It also makes the story more relatable.

    Parts of a Character

What all do you need to know to fully understand your character? Well, for starters, it is important to understand where they are coming from. How they were raised and treated in the past has a huge impact on the Character's view in the world. This helps you as a writer make decisions about the character, based on what they've been through.

It is also important to understand what the character wants by the end of the story. If you understand clearly what the character is after in the story it can help cut out unnecessary confusion later on when it comes to making hard choices in writing about what to keep and what goes.

Knowing the ins and outs of a character makes them more relatable to the audience. They can understand the acts of an authentic character where their actions make sense based on the situation. This will overall make the film better for the audience because they can understand the character.

What a Relatable Character Looks Like

In Spiderman, Peter Parker is a relatable character because the writers thought about his actions before writing them. They also reserved the time to explain why he acts the way that he does.

They show the audience that Peter is not a perfect character. He was raised by his aunt and uncle because his parents had passed away. This makes him relatable already since some people can relate to having no parents or absent parents.

His personality is also relatable to the audience because his actions reflect a something that a real person would do, and therefore touches the people in the audience. He is close to his aunt and uncle but when they try too hard to become his parents he gets upset. A lot of people can relate to people trying to act like this, so they understand. This makes him a better character, therefore a better movie.

    Final Thoughts

Making character that are relatable can help you in the writing process and help the audience relate to the character. It is important to understand the motivations and personality of the character to make the film better.
